This is Kody's story , told by his mom Carmen Beach ,Kody was diagnosed with melanoma at 15 years old.

"Kody was misdiagnosed for about a year. It started on the bottom of his foot and it didn't look like a mole, at first it just looked like he stepped in grease and it was nothing. A few months later we took him to the doctor and they said he had a plantars wart. We did a few little things to try and get rid of it but none of them worked. Then basketball season started and it didn't bother him. It stayed the same. Then in May 2013 I took him to the doctor because it had started to look different. I told the doctor to go ahead and give him a shot in the bottom of his foot to cure it. I really never thought about melanoma given the location. It didn't look like a mole. By July he had a lump in his groin. In August we found out he was stage 3 c. He is now Stage IV. He is so brave. Battles it like a champ."

"Melanoma has spread to his knee, groin, and lungs and on 11/29 we found out that it has spread to his brain. He has had 3 surgeries, tried 3 different immune/chemo treatments and had 15 sessions of radiation on the back of his knee. He had his first dose of a new drug called Keytruda (PD-1) that is showing some great results in helping to battle melanoma. He is currently getting 10 sessions of whole brain radiation. He will be getting numerous PET scans, MRI’s and CT scans. Most of his treatment will be in Reno but we will travel to San Francisco quite often to see his melanoma specialist"  Kody Beach Kody's melanoma battle Kirt Beach Cory Beach
